Lucinda Rose: Lord Howe exhibition - - Glebe - NSW
This series of oil paintings and ceramic sculptures intend to evoke the distinct energetic qualities of Lord Howe’s sub-tropical volcanic landscape. The stylised imagery of endemic flora sprawling across the panels suggests the experience of nature as an overwhelming life force, while the graduated colours help elicit a dreamy ambience. In contrast to the wooden panels that lightly float off the wall, the ceramic sculptures provide a counterpoint of solidity and weight. They maintain the indistinct otherworldliness through the use of dappled glazes. Since completing her Bachelor of Fine Arts at the University of New South Wales, Lucinda has created a body of work inspired by her connection to Lord Howe Island. She spent the first year of her life there, and has made subsequent visits.
