Lunchtime Research Seminar: Architecture’S Desiring Machines - Seminar room 541, Wilkinson Building - Darlington - NSW
SYDNEY SCHOOL OF ARCHITECTURE, DESIGN & PLANNING LUNCHTIME RESEARCH SEMINARArchitecture’s Desiring Machines by Associate Professor Chris L. SmithThis insalment of the Lunchtime Research Seminar relates to Chris’ work on the body/architecture relation and a book notionally titled Libidinal Archtitecture. Chris traces the liberation of the libido from the turn of the 20th century onward (in psychoanalysis and philosophy) and the manners by which architecture lubricates that movement. The story of the libido is an architectural story. It is a story of architects, of dancehalls and houses, and of designed objects and implements, constructions and contraptions: machines of desire. And simultaneously … The story of architecture is a libidinal story. It is a story of lust and love. It is a story of seductions and solicitations, choreographed movements and allures: desiring machines. It is Chris’ intention to tell these two stories as one: A singular story of libidinal architecture. This is a free event and members of the public are very welcome to join.
