Makerspace family fun day - - Surry Hills - NSW
As part of our maker and creator series, learn makerspace skills in a fun, family-friendly environment. Using our favourite kits and tools, our City of Sydney Library team will be running programs where you can tinker with anything from simple electronics to robotics. Chain reaction machine Use different objects, circuits and bits ‘n’ pieces to create different chain reactions. Inspired by the Rube Goldberg machine, make your own over-engineered contraption, just like the American inventor. Build a collective contraption made up of a sequence of events on your allocated section of a table top. The twist is that your creation has to set off the contraption built by the next team. What ensues is a seamless chain reaction where you can watch your work become part of a wider project. Doodle-bot With the help of basic electronics and components, discover how to make a doodle-bot drawing robot. Using only simple motors, create a roving robot that doodles across a page. Afterwards, take home your doodle-bot, as well as the robot-masterpieces it creates. Creative corner This is where you freestyle and explore other popular maker and creator activities with your kids. Construct your own squishy circuits, play with robots, colour in an augmented reality animation or let loose with different materials and 3Doodlers. Suitable for families and kids of all ages, this free event has limited capacity so bookings are essential. All children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Surry Hills Library is wheelchair friendly.
