Oliver Beer In-Conversation

Join British artist Oliver Beer in conversation with Caleb Kelly as they discuss relationships between sound, space, voice and architecture in Beer’s new exhibition ‘Impossible Composition’ at UNSW Galleries.

Oliver Beer lives and works in London and Paris. He studied music before attending the Ruskin School of Art, University of Oxford. Beer’s work has been the subject of many solo and group exhibitions, notably at MoMA PS1, New York; Foundation Vuitton, Palais de Tokyo and Centre Pompidou, Paris; WIELS Centre for Contemporary Art, Brussels; and the Biennale of Sydney. He is currently developing major commissions for The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York and Museum of Old and New Art, Hobart.

Dr Caleb Kelly is an academic and curator working in the area of the sound arts. His first book, ‘Cracked Media: The Sound of Malfunction’, was published in 2009 through MIT Press. He edited ‘Sound’, part of the Documents of Contemporary Art series published by MIT Press and Whitechapel Gallery in London, and his second book entitled, ‘Gallery Sound’ was published by Bloomsbury Academic in 2017. Kelly's research has led to a rethinking of how art is listened to, historically and in contemporary practice.

Oliver Beer is represented by Anna Schwartz Gallery, Melbourne.
