Rpi System: Research Showcase - UTS: Data Arena - Ultimo - NSW
Researchers of the University of Technology Sydney, along with Sydney Trains invite you to join us for the RPI System: Research Showcase hosted in the UTS Data Arena. Within the showcase, PhD student Katelyn Bywaters and other members of the UTS research team will be presenting the progress made on developing the Responsive Passenger Information (RPI) System. This research showcase welcomes the general public and interested industry parties by introducing them to the exciting and innovative works being undertaken in collaboration with Sydney Trains and Transport for NSW.

Within Sydney, the rising levels of passenger congestion experienced on the Sydney Trains network has serious repercussions for both the rail operators and their customers. The effects of passenger congestion can cause crippling delays to services and result in cues of passengers to enter stations and board services. This is experienced at some stations, like Town Hall on a regular basis.

In light of the unique problems faced at Town Hall station, UTS researchers have teamed up with Sydney Trains to begin work on the RPI System. Unlike traditional forms of passenger information, the RPI system relies on a two way exchange of up-to-date information that will allow customers to take control of the journey and avoid unwanted delays and congestion.

The showcase will provide an exclusive insight into the technologies developed by UTS in order to support the RPI system. An interactive and immersive display of data collected from 3D infrared sensors will also be included to demonstrate the innovative approaches used to monitor passenger congestion whilst ensuring the complete anonymity of Sydney Trains customers.

Please join us as we step into the 360 degree facility to observe, explore, discover and learn about new RPI System technology and how it can help to achieve a seamless customer experience.
