Traces: A series of performative artefacts - - Paddington - NSW
What sort of future are we creating? How are we addressing the championing, marginalisation, or erasures of certain historical narratives from social consciousness? How much of history are we willing to repeat? These are all questions asked in upcoming curatorial project, Traces. Developed by the student collective known as The Curators. The project is held at 2pm to 8pm on 17 October on UNSW Art & Design, Paddington campus, where events are bookmarked by themes of Boundaries, Transactions, Transformations, Revolutions, and Publics. These performative artefacts grew from a reflection of the past 50 years. Inspired by the global riots of 1968, The Curators desired to re-kindle acts of agency and awareness through local surroundings. Using the university as a backdrop was intentional in bringing the issues home to the larger student cohort. How can we champion for change if we aren’t aware of our own behaviours, was the starting point in piecing together what the project would look like. Traces includes: - A guided walking trail, juxtaposing Dharug place names with council and institutional signs - Performance artworks by Nada DeCat and Wesley Shaw - Film screening of video art and short films exploring gender, sexuality, and identity - An In Conversation with the artists - Food event with conversation. This is a child friendly event, people of all ages are welcome. More information about this event can be found on the website.
